There are a few shows out there that focus on fixing broken restaurants that are pretty entertaining. If you’ve never seen them before, they basically take a restaurant that is failing for some reason, and a celebrity chef, like Gordon Ramsay, comes in and shows them what they’re doing wrong. Most of the time, it’s just a complete disregard for doing things well or caring about their job that screws up the restaurant. In some other occasions it’s just a stupid owner (ok, actually usually) who refuses to take an honest look at what they’re doing, and what they should be doing. It just goes to show it doesn’t take any special skillset to open a business, and that’s part of the reason why so many fail.
Anyway, an interesting stat about these restaurants is that roughly 85%+ of them still fail a year or two after the show. This is probably due to the fact that the management is quite often unwilling to take the advice of Ramsay, or even if they do, they might not be able to execute that on a day to day basis. Still, an entertaining show.
